32×32ドットのLEDディスプレイ12台が、円環状に配置され、ひとつひとつのLEDが順番に点灯していきます．それぞれのLEDには、点灯しないもの、点灯し続けるもの、点滅しているものがあります．これらのLEDは、その光の点滅の速度のちがいによって0から9の数字を表わしています．また、同様に0から9の数字が、異なる色として、プロジェクターから発される光によっても表わされています．
本作は、髙橋自身の共感覚体験から生まれる「数字と色の関係性」をもとに、無理数である円周率の表現を共感覚にもとづいて試みたインスタレーションです．無理数とは、分数の形で表わせない数のことであり、それは無限に続く規則性のない小数になります．髙橋は、この全体を表わすことができない数を円環状に配置したLEDディスプレイを用いて、円周率という無理数を表現しています．共感覚とは、あるひとつの感覚刺激に対して、それとは別の感覚も無意識的に引き起こされる脳の知覚現象で、通常ではつながっていないはずの複数の感覚が影響し合って生じるものです．たとえば、文字に色がついて見える、音や味に形を感じる、痛みと色彩が連動するなど、人によって異なるさまざまな共感覚が存在し、幼少期に消失することも多いと言われています．
光や色として表現された数列は、作家自身の目と脳を通してだけ出現する風景でもあります．それがいつかは変わってしまうかもしれないという感覚を持ちながら、数字が美しいとは何か、をとどめるための作品として制作されています．

Twelve 32 x 32 dot LED panels are arranged in a circle. The single LEDs are switched on one after another, whereas there are some that do not light up, others that light up continuously, and yet others that blink. According to their different blinking speed, the LEDs display numbers from 0 to 9. At the same time, numbers from 0 to 9 are also projected in the form of different colored lights from a projector.
This installation is a synesthesia-based attempt to display the irrational number “Pi” according to the “relationship between numbers and colors” that is generated through the artist’s own synesthetic experience. An irrational number is a number that cannot be expressed as a fraction, which means an endless row of irregular decimals. TAKAHASHI uses a circular arrangement of LED panels to express “Pi” as an irrational number that cannot be displayed in its entirety. Synesthesia is a perceptual phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory organ triggers the involuntary response of another. It occurs inside the brain through the interaction of multiple senses that are supposedly not connected. Types of synesthesia vary from one person to another, such as seeing letters in different colors, perceiving sounds or flavors as shapes, or associating pain with colors. It is said that this phenomenon often disappears during childhood.
The sequences expressed through lights and colors represent at once sceneries that only appear via the artist’s own eyes and brain. The work was made with the intention to capture the perception of beauty in numbers, and the awareness that it may change at some point.
